What is value, light & form? How does it work and why is it so important? In this lesson, you will actually see, understand and apply VALUE, LIGHT & FORM in your paintings! Find your light source and follow it through your painting. Understand distance and atmosphere.

Lesson 2 - Color Creates Magic

In Color Creates Magic, Debra dives deeper into understanding valuesand how they relate to color. Learn how to use color to 'show-off" an area. Use opposite colors to mute each other.You will gain the vital knowledge needed to create paintings that have form, depth and excitement. We will also discuss Gamblin oil paint, Rosemary & Co brushes & technique.

Lesson 3 - Palette & Color Wheel

Set-up your paint on your palette using Debra Huse's Famous "Keep you out of Trouble" palette guide
Debra will teach you how to paint your own color wheel. Learn to mix colors and find the Value of each Color. Learn brush techniques.

Lesson 4 - Design, Don't Copy

Debra teaches how to create a dynamic design. Try a Notan. This is a drawing with markers to decide design and placement of values. Consider your design for your sunflower. Create don't copy. Then together we will carry the design to canvas as you begin to create a beautiful value painting. Brushwork is very important. Learn new techniques!

Lesson 5 - Complimenting with Color

We will be painting the color version of the sunflower.  Set up your 6x8 panel, replenish your palette and follow Debra as she guides you step-by-step. Debra will show you how she carves her background around the subject, using color theory to create vibrant and interesting shapes and edges. The lesson will combine what you learned in the previous lessons about value and color. Learn how much or little detail is needed to complete your painting.

Lesson 6 - Key Insights & Techniques

Learn different ways to hold your brush to get the right effect & what types of brushes create the desired strokes. See Debra's "Lay It Down & Leave It Alone" techniques that will keep you from overworking your painting!

Lesson 7 - Make It Simple & Fun

Make it Simple & Fun! concludes Big Bold Basics with a 8x6" sailboat painting.
Debra leads you step-by-step through this fun, bold and colorful Paint-Along.
